Meta, the company behind Facebook has been developing artificial intelligence technology for the past few years. Most recently, today Meta announced the offering of their new generation language model, the Llama 2.
Interestingly, this language model is offered in an open and free form for research use and also for commercial use. With this step, it allows this model to be used for various purposes, including in product development and integration on existing products.
Meta also offers it through Azure AI under Microsoft to facilitate development, and will also be offered through Hugging Face and also Amazon AWS.
It's quite interesting to see Meta offering it openly to various parties, in contrast to OpenAI which uses a licensing model.
With this offering, together we witness various developments through it, and how the development of artificial intelligence is controlled when it is offered openly. Previously, many were worried that offering a model openly would bring danger and be misused by a few parties.
