The Minister of Communications and Digital is now sharing developments involving Digital Nasional Berhad or DNB. Through the latest partnership, it was shared that CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile and YTL Communications (Yes) will finalize the shareholding process in DNB. Information regarding the equity breakdown and required investment is not shared for now.
For information, previously equity participation was delayed or canceled after the announcement that Malaysia would switch to a dual-network model after DNB reached an 80% coverage rate. At the time, the telecommunications company stated that the agreement was canceled because it had exceeded the set discussion period, and a new agreement would follow. It seems that, under the new agreement, all telecommunications companies join and will take stakes in DNB.
In fact, Maxis and U Mobile who did not participate in the acquisition of equity in DNB before - now changed when the government announced their names once in the announcement this time.
According to the previous government partnership, the composition of the service providers in Entity A (DNB) and Entity B will be decided later. So, we may see a split and equity split then later.
With this new development, let's all look forward to what's next for DNB and the 5G arena in Malaysia.
