Netflix's Magenta Green Screen Technique Produces Special Effects That Look More Realistic

Editing visual effects in a film or TV series is not an easy task. Again, it involves a green screen because if it is not done properly, the audience can see a fake object. Recently, Netflix has succeeded in creating a new green screen technique called Magenta Green Screen. This technique is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and can also work in real time from within the camera.

This Magenta Green Screen technique, if seen from the video above, the character in front of the green screen that is replaced with the background of a scene looks more realistic. Not only that, translucent objects such as glass bottles are also easier to change the background without disfiguring the object.

The effect of green lighting on the characters is also invisible, making it easier to edit the video during post-processing. For now this new technique is still under study and has not been used on the actual filming set. The main problem with Magenta Green Screen is that each actor has to be flashed with very bright blue and red light which may disturb their focus.

A research paper on how this system was developed as well as more information on its use can be accessed through the link below.
