NVIDIA Upgrades Their Graphics Cards With New 12V-2×6 PCIe Plugs

Last week we reported that PCI-SIG has updated their 12VHPWR plug with a new plug called 12V-2×6 that comes with a new design and specifications that ensure that the issues that plagued the previous 12VHPWR plug are not repeated.

It was previously expected that this plug would only be used for future releases of graphics cards, but NVIDIA has now confirmed that they have quietly updated their most powerful graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with this latest plug.

Many of these graphics cards were previously seen with problems where the plug part melted due to uneven energy flow, and caused this component to heat up. With the new design of this 12V-2×6 plug, it is hoped that this will not happen again.

It has also been reported that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition graphics card has also used this plug since its launch, but was not announced by NVIDIA.

So far it is not yet known whether NVIDIA graphics card developer partners will also switch to this new PCIe power plug. The same advantages on the 12VHPWR plug are shown, such as the use of only one cable that can still handle high power flow, but our expectation is that it is being tested first before being installed on their graphics cards.
