Last February, OpenAI launched a tool that can detect a piece of writing authored by artificial intelligence (AI) or humans. It was launched due to the concern of academics that ChatGPT is being used by students to delay doing assignments in educational institutions.
Today OpenAI announced that this tool has been discontinued due to low accuracy in detecting AI works. They are now conducting a new study for more effective detection of AI works. There were several other tools that were launched shortly after ChatGPT became public. With AI getting smarter because it is being trained all the time, at some point the process of detecting it will become more and more difficult.
