OpenAI Sued for Alleged Violation of Intellectual Property of Thousands of Authors

Through ChatGPT, OpenAI has succeeded in producing artificial intelligence (AI) that is changing the employment landscape. In less than a year, AI is now used in various applications and popular software such as Microsoft Office. But in California, OpenAI has been sued by several authors for allegedly training ChatGPT using copyrighted works.

Paul Tremblay and Mona Awad are two authors who filed a class action lawsuit representing thousands of authors whose work was used to train ChatGPT without permission. According to them ChatGPT can produce accurate conclusions about their writings confirming that it has been used to train AI.

In the writ of summons, OpenAI is believed to be using up to 300,000 books as training resources without compensating the intellectual property holders. In addition to OpenAI, Stability AI, Midjourney and DeviantArt have also been sued this year by artists over their generative AI allegedly using intellectual property without permission.
