OpenSignal : Malaysia Has World's 4th Fastest 5G Download Speed

OpenSignal has now released their latest report, showing that Malaysia has the 4th fastest 5G download speed rate in the world. According to the report, South Korea leads the list with an average speed of 432.5Mbps, followed by Singapore with an average speed of 376.8Mbps, Brazil with 346.4Mbps, and Malaysia in 4th place with an average download speed of 322.7Mbps.

OpenSignal also noted that only seven countries showed average 5G download rates exceeding 300Mbps.

However, OpenSignal also touched on the Malaysian market briefly, stating that Malaysia uses a single 5G network, in addition to the still very low 5G usage rate. This means that network load rates are still very low leading to high usage speeds.

In Malaysia, today Celcom, Digi, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile and Yes offer 5G services, through DNB's infrastructure. Maxis is said to be signing an access agreement with DNB soon. The government also stated that Malaysia will switch to a 5G dual-network model by the beginning of 2024, after DNB reaches a coverage rate of 80% of populated areas.
