The Sony Alpha A6700 is officially launched and it is probably the most anticipated camera since the last time this series was launched was the A6600 four years ago. During that time the camera system and its user needs have changed. This camera is equipped with a 26MP Exmor-R APS-C sensor with a 5-axis IBIS stabilization system. It is also matched with the Bionz XR image processing chip.
There is a 759-point PDAF focusing system. The standard features of Sony Alpha cameras are selectable human, animal, face and eye focusing modes. Through this sensor, the camera can record video at 4K 120FPS settings. There is a Cinetone mode for a cinematic color mode. For those shooting HDR video, S-Log3 and HLG modes are possible.
The ability to capture images is up to 11FPS. One interesting feature provided is that the camera can track moving subjects when recording videos like CenterStage on the iPad.
On the back is a 3″ touch screen that can be turned forward for easier self-video recording. The EVF is an OLED type with 2.36 million dots. All these components are put into a magnesium alloy body with a total weight without the lens reaching 500 grams. The camera body is very compact but still has a large grip section.
The Sony Alpha A6700 is sold starting in August at a price of $1,400 for the body only, $1,500 with the 16-50mm lens and $1,800 with the 18-135mm lens. We will report the local price as soon as we receive it from Sony Malaysia.
