Threads Said Not To Be A Platform For News And Politics – Wants To Focus On Community And Positive Sharing

Threads ushers in a new era on Meta as a Twitter-like short message sharing platform. In just a few days it has exceeded 70 million user accounts and this is equivalent to around 1/5 of Twitter's total user accounts. One difference we noticed is that in Threads the focus is not on spreading the news. It's similar to the first year of Twitter where sharing was in the form of daily life statuses.

Adam Mosseri who is the head of Instagram, in a conversation with The Verge reporter has confirmed that the platform will not focus on news and political content. According to him, the focus on news and politics is not worth it because it will cause issues of integrity, negative image and even surveillance from the authorities.

All platforms that have the above issues need to have a strict content monitoring system. As we can see in Malaysia, 3R's political content is now a hot topic with KKD warning social media platforms to control it.

At the same time what makes Twitter unique is the discussion of current news and political issues. If Threads refuses to focus on these two topics, it is still not able to be a real alternative to Twitter.

However, at the same time, Adam Mosseri stated that they will not reduce the reach for sharing news or politics. This safe step may be taken by Threads to ensure that advertisers do not perceive it as a negative platform to highlight their respective brands.
