U.S. Will Block Cloud Services Like AWS Even For Chinese Customers

Not enough to physically block China's artificial intelligence chip technology, the United States will impose access barriers to cloud computing services such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure, according to a Wall Street Journal report this morning.

Cloud computing services are seen as a way for Chinese companies to circumvent the barriers to purchasing artificial intelligence chips made by AMD and NVIDIA previously enforced. The United States Department of Commerce is expected to issue an order as early as this week.

China is blocked from accessing the latest technology developed by the United States because it is suspected of being used for military purposes. Starting with the ban on Huawei, it is now also imposed on companies like DJI. China responded to these obstacles by limiting exports of gallium and germanium needed for chip manufacturing.
