WhatsApp now comes with a new method of transferring data to a new device, which is by scanning a QR code only, and performing the transfer by connecting through the same WiFi network.
With this step, it makes the process of transferring WhatsApp to a new device even easier, and there is no longer a need to make a duplicate copy in the cloud such as in Google Drive or iCloud first.
To transfer, users only need to go to Settings > Chats > Chat Transfer. Next a QR code will be displayed, and you just need to scan the QR code on the new phone to start the transfer.
WhatsApp says this move is more secure than the need to upload a copy to the cloud first as before. This step is also easier for transferring between iOS and Android devices.
