16shop offers a phishing-as-a-service (Paas) service based in Indonesia. This week, Interpol announced the successful disabling of the 16shop operation in collaboration with Group-IB. Three individuals are now arrested for their involvement in offering phishing kits to customers who want to steal people's personal data.
The 16shop group is believed to be involved in the production of 150,000 phishing sites targeting users in the United States, Japan, Germany, France, and the UK. It is estimated that there are 70,000 individuals from 43 countries who are victims of the services offered by 16shop. Among those stolen were the banking information of PayPal, American Express, Amazon and many others.
In order to disable his operation, Interpol arrested a 21-year-old suspect who is believed to be the operator of 16shop in Indonesia. According to the site's registration information, the service is hosted in the United States but the owner is located in Indonesia. Based on the first arrest, two more members of 16shop were arrested in Indonesia and Japan.
