In the past two quarters, global smartphone production showed a double-digit decline. All major smartphone manufacturers are affected with Tim Cook himself saying demand for the iPhone is expected to decline this year. Despite this, the Counterpoint firm has published a forecast that Apple will become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer throughout 20203.
This will happen if Apple manages to avoid the production issue of the iPhone 15 series this year to meet the needs of users. The same issue last year affected iPhone sales in Q4 2022. But smartphone production in 2023 will reach its lowest level since 2013 with a 6% decline compared to 2022. A total of 1.15 billion smartphones are forecast to be released this year compared to 1.32 billion smartphones released in 2014. .
Asian markets (excluding India and China), North America and China were the main drivers of lower smartphone production this year. Although the pandemic is "over", smartphone sales have not recovered due to the global economy still not recovering.
