CapCut is a fairly popular video editing application. It currently has up to 200 million monthly active users. This application is often used by TikTok users and for those who don't know, CapCut is also owned by ByteDance which is the company behind TikTok.
Most recently, ByteDance was sued in the United States on charges that CapCut stole sensitive user data. Among the data allegedly stolen are the user's face scan, user's voice, location, date of birth, gender, photos and videos belonging to the user, as well as device data including MAC address and SIM card serial number.
The report from The Record also stated that since Bytedance is a company from China - user data may be shared with the Chinese government. CapCut is also alleged to have deliberately designed the user's privacy policy to be difficult for users to understand, resulting in users agreeing to use this application without worrying about their data being stolen.
The United States government has been at war with Bytedance for years in banning their applications from being accessible. A few months ago, Montana became the first American state to successfully ban TikTok and will soon also ban Telegram, WeChat and CapCut.
Based on this report, do our readers still dare to use CapCut or will they switch to other video editing applications that are widely offered on the Play Store?
