Dropbox this week ended its Dropbox Advanced unlimited cloud storage offering after discovering that a number of customers were abusing the service. Dropbox Advanced is offered to enterprise customers who want large cloud storage but are offered by other services.
The reason given by Dropbox is that the unlimited storage is abused by crypto miners, individuals who buy an account to share and those who sell subscriptions to others.
Dropbox Advanced customers with three licenses will now be limited to 15TB of cloud storage only. This is enough to store 100 million documents, 4 million photos, and 7500 HD videos. A total of 5TB of storage will be added for each license purchased. This action had to be taken by Dropbox to ensure that their services will not be interrupted due to the abuse of a group of users.
