Fairphone is a mid-range device manufacturer that focuses on self-repairability with long software update support. Today the Fairphone 5 was launched with a 6.46″ OLED FHD+ 90Hz screen, powered by a Snapdragon 778G chip with 8GB of memory, and 256 GB of storage and micro SD support up to 2TB. The rear camera is 50+50 Megapixel from Sony IMX800 and IMX858 (same as Xiaomi 13 series) and the selfie camera is also 50MP.
The device will run Android 13 operating system, support Bluetooth 5.2 LE, 6GHz WiFi, NFC, 5G, 4200mAh battery and 30W USB 3.0 fast charging. Fairphone 5 also comes with IP55 protection for water and dust resistance.
Most interestingly, the Fairphone 5 will support 5 years of operating system updates with 8 years of security patch updates. This means that it will be supported until 2031 and Fairphone is planning to try to support it until 2033. The warranty however is limited to five years only but all components to repair themselves Fairphone will sell it. After being used, Fairphone also accepts these devices for recycling.
Fairphone 5 comes with a choice of Sky Blue, Matte Black, or a transparent back panel. The selling price is €699 (~RM3,530) and it is limited to Europe only for now with no plans for global sales.
