Wear OS is a smartwatch operating system that started life as Android Wear nine years ago before being renamed in 2018. Currently, many smartwatches are still running Wear OS 2 due to the very slow distribution of updates. Recently 9to5Google reported that Google will turn off Google Assistant support on Wear OS 2 watches and below.
Google also issued a message telling users to use new smartwatches that support Wear OS 3 or above. This is disappointing news as some Fossil watches and TicWatches are still stuck with older versions of Wear OS.
But the fact is that the support for smart watches is the same as for smartphones, which is only about five years. Apple itself has discontinued support for the Apple Watch Series 1 in 2020 after five years of launch. For this reason, there is already an Apple Watch that has been modified into a mechanical watch to extend the life of its use and not become electronic waste.
