Not many Android devices offer up to five years of software update support. Usually it's 2 or 3 years of the operating system and then 4 or 5 years of security patches. The longest until today is Samsung which promises updates 4+5 years, Honor with 3+5 years, Poco is 2+3 years, and Xiaomi 3+4 years.
Most recently, Google reportedly wants to be the first Android device manufacturer to provide the longest update support of 5+5 years – 5 Android versions and 5 years of security patches starting with the Pixel 8. Currently the Pixel only receives 3+5 years of updates.
Google will probably follow in the footsteps of the NVIDIA Shield which is given updates for up to 8 years because NVIDIA itself produced the Tegra X1 chip in the device. With Google producing its own Tensor chip all Pixel devices using this chip can receive older update support.
