India Bans Import of Laptops, Desktops and Tablets for Local IT Industry


 India today issued import restrictions on laptops, desktop computers, tablets and browsers to protect the local IT industry. Companies still wanting to import this electronic equipment need to apply for a license first.



Under the "Make in India" screen, the Indian government offers various incentives to international companies to open up in their country. Companies such as Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi are among those that have opened factories in India in the last four years to get tax breaks.


Since starting to manufacture the device in India, the iPhone's share for example has increased because the device is sold at a cheaper price. The Make In India plan wants to make their country an IT technology superpower by 2030. Since the pandemic it has paid off with several companies starting to move their manufacturing from China to India.
