The messaging feature on Instagram that is Direct Message or DM is full of interesting functions. The main problem with this DM is that people I don't follow and don't know can send unwanted spam messages. Instagram has new protections for DMs that limit the amount and type of messages that can be sent to users who don't follow each other.
First of all DM messages can only be sent once. If you want to send the next message, the recipient must agree to receive the first DM sent. The second is that messages that can be sent are limited to text only. If the user wants to send images, voice messages etc., again the recipient has to agree first. Features like this can stop spam from scammers or bots.
This feature is greatly appreciated as lately many are sharing on social media – especially female users who are harassed by other users by sending abusive words and negative content via DM.
