Intel Discontinues Production of Some of Their NUC Series Computers

Last July, Intel announced that they would stop new investment in their Next Unit of Computing series of dwarf computers, but would allow their hardware developer partners to develop the computers.

Recently, Intel has issued a Product Change Notification regarding a number of their existing NUC products, including NUC 12 Enthusiast, NUC X15 Laptop Kit and NUC P14E Laptop.

According to the notice, Intel said that they will stop production of these products starting August 18, which is also the last day on which distributors and device developers can place final orders for these products.

What is interesting about this announcement is that two of these products, the NUC 12 Enthusiast and the NUC X15 are very unique products. The NUC 12 Enthusiast comes with Intel's 12th generation Alder Lake processing chip and also an Intel Arc A770M graphics card, which is Intel's full CPU+GPU offering.

The NUC X15 laptop was just introduced in the third quarter of last year and houses the 12th generation Intel processor chip series for laptops and houses the Intel Arc A730M graphics card and offers technology support such as Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 and WiFi 6.

Intel's choice to stop production of their NUC computers isn't surprising, but for some of these products, it's a little strange because they've only just been announced, and the expectation is that they'll be supported for a while longer.
