The champion of the last generation console war was the Nintendo Switch which sold almost 126 million units compared to PlayStation 4 (117.2 million) and Xbox One (58 million). Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series S/X have been launched since 2020 and Nintendo is reported to launch their new generation consoles in H2 2024 according to VGC report.
Development kits for games on these new consoles have already been given to major studios. The information known so far is that it will use an LCD screen instead of OLED to reduce costs. It will still have a portable mode like the Switch as well as come with a dock to play on the television. Nintendo will also increase the console's internal storage and maintain the use of cartridges for physically sold games.
What is still unknown is whether Nintendo will provide Switch game support on this new console. Despite being four years behind its competitors, Nintendo has the advantage of being the only mobile console manufacturer on the market. Because of the Switch, portable consoles like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally are now marketed for PC gamers.
