Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G – Another Portrait Photography Device

After a few days of using the Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G as a daily device, it is clear that Oppo is now present with an increasingly sophisticated and almost perfect series of smartphones. I say this because the device offered this time not only offers a complete operating system and features but also provides diversity from the camera photography aspect of the device.

At the time this article was written, the Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G was already on the market at a price of RM2199. It is a more affordable model than the Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G which was also reviewed by us last week.

SCREEN

I started this review article by writing about the 3D curved screen design which makes it look premium and there is a small circle in the middle for the selfie camera on the top of the screen. For protection purposes, AGC DT Star2 type glass is used for the screen along with a protective film. The Oppo Reno10 Pro also comes with a 6.7" FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Not only that, the screen display settings can also be changed according to the mode i.e. 60Hz, 120Hz or automatically.

When I used this device to watch Youtube content in HDR mode with high resolution, the color display in the video content was well distinguishable and clear. However, it is a bit of a mistake when this device does not provide HDR support for video content on Netflix while I believe many users today like to watch Netflix on smartphones because it is easier to access everywhere.

But what I can say, even without HDR, the display of video content on the Netflix platform can still be viewed well and clearly in terms of color, contrast and the difference shown on other devices that support HDR on Netflix content is not so significant.

FINGERPRINT SCANNER

Realme uses a fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the screen. The fingerprint function on this device works well and can detect the finger quickly when the finger is clean and not wet.

DESIGN

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G is a mid-range device that has an excellent finish, beautiful, light (185 grams) and also thin (7.89mm). This device is comfortable in the hand because its size is not so big and not so small and is even suitable if you want to put it in your pocket.

At first glance when I saw the Oppo Reno10 Pro, I felt the design of this device looked very premium and stylish. Here it indirectly shows Oppo's efforts in producing a device that is not only excellent in terms of camera capabilities but also good in terms of design.

There are two color options for this device, namely 'glossy purple' and 'silvery grey'. The one I received is the 'silvery grey' color and I personally really like it. In addition, the back design of the device has a velvet-like finish and I consider it as something unique and I rarely see it on other devices.

SOFTWARE & USAGE

The Snapdragon 778G processing chip is used on the device. A combination of 12GB of memory with the ability to support virtual RAM up to 12GB. Then the internal storage owned by this device is 256GB. This device also uses ColorOS 13.1 operating system based on Android 13.

The Android 13-based ColorOS 13.1 Operating System used on the device basically provides a smooth usage experience. The operating system that comes in this device also completes the device with basic applications from Google.

But the Snapdragon 778G processing chip used in the device is no longer the best mid-range chip because it is quite an old processing chip compared to the Snapdragon 782G and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. But what is more important is that the device supports the 5G network that is now A 'mandatory' feature that should be on every device in Malaysia today.

As I said earlier, Oppo also offers this device with 12GB RAM and 256GB memory and there is an Extended RAM feature that allows users to add up to 12GB more RAM virtually with 4GB, 8GB and 12GB options. This makes it possible to reach up to 24GB of RAM for a device and this I feel is more than enough to make it a daily device.

Other features and functions that I like on this device include:

Smart Sidebar – Favorite applications can be accessed more quickly through tabs on the side of the device screen.

Split Screen/Flexible Windows – Two applications can be run simultaneously.

Quick Return – Allows users to quickly switch application usage by simply tapping on a window.

Kid Space – Make device use safer for children.

Flexible Windows – Two applications can be launched simultaneously or float more than one application on the screen using multi-window.

BENCH MARK

Based on the main benchmark tests which are Antutu 3D, Geekbench 6 and 3D Mark show a score that can be classified as a good benchmark. Here I am including the benchmark scores for Poco X5 Pro 5G and Samsung Galaxy A73 5G for comparison as all three devices use the same type of processor chip.

Geekbench 6

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G – 919/2708

Poco X5 Pro 5G – 718/2892

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G – 736/2740

AnTuTu 3D

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G – 572,283

Poco X5 Pro 5G – 529,942

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G – 477,570

Wild Life

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G – 2474

Poco X5 Pro 5G – not tested

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G – cannot be tested

Throughout using this device there were no problems or issues about performance and the most important thing is that even though I opened many applications at a time and switched between using applications, there were no issues with time lags or being stuck. The experience of using social media and even video games and watching videos is smooth, good and clear. There was no problem of excessive heating of the device during use even though I used the device to play the game at high resolution.

CAMERA

The main focus of the device is on the camera department where it comes with a triple camera setup on the back which is 50MP wide angle, 32MP for telephoto and 8MP ultra-wide lens. The main lens of the 50MP camera was able to take pictures with beautiful results and every detail in the picture was well taken care of. Not only that, the color and sharpness of the photos taken using the Oppo Reno10 Pro are also not disappointing.

In fact, the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) feature also works very well. For example, if the hand shakes while taking a picture, with the support of OIS the shot will still look beautiful, not blurry and stable. The ultra-wide angle shot is also good where it provides enough detail in the shot even after using the zoom feature.

Next, we turn to the special feature available in the camera of this device, which is the 'Portrait Expert' feature with a 32MP camera lens for telephoto. This 'Portrait Expert' function allows you to take portrait photos with excellent detail results and it can detect faces very well. Although portraits are taken with the 2x optical zoom function, the camera can still deliver beautiful, clear shots with a blurred background.

I was prepared if there was an error in the blur feature in the background and would affect the subject as this often happens on other devices, but the problem did not occur on the Oppo Reno10 Pro camera with the 'Portrait Expert' function.

Then the selfie camera of this device comes with a 32MP RGBW sensor and provides a zoom feature with an option of 0.8x to 1x. The quality of the selfie photos is also not disappointing, being at a good level.

This Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G also allows you to record video with 4K resolution at 30fps, 60fps for Full HD video recording and HD recording at 60fps and 30fps while for selfie video recording can be done at 30fps in FHD resolution.

BATTERY

The 4600mAh battery is the battery capacity used on this Oppo Reno10 Pro and the battery life can last all day after being fully charged. The SOT reading is around 5 to 6 hours for normal usage rates such as browsing social media, watching videos and listening to music.

80W charging support is also available and based on experience throughout use, the allotted time to reach a full charge percentage of 100% from 20% only takes about 30 minutes. Even the SuperVOOC S power management chip for safe charging also complements the battery features of this device. The charging head is also provided with a white USB-A to USB-C cable.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

Here's a list of what comes in the box with every Oppo Reno10 Pro purchase:

1x Oppo Reno10 Pro

1x Protective frame

1x 80W Charger

1x USB-A to USB-C Cable

1x SIM Pin

1x Set of manual and safety book

CONCLUSION

Oppo Reno10 Pro is a device that gives its main focus to the camera, however Oppo still does not ignore the design aspects, features and functions offered through their Reno series this time. In my opinion, this Oppo10 Pro smartphone is also certainly capable of providing satisfaction to users from the performance aspect and especially for those who like the art of portrait photography.

However, I personally feel that the price for a device which is RM2199 is quite expensive because the processor chip used by this device is a relatively old processor chip and does not have waterproof features. However, many smartphones in the market with a lower price provide this feature.
