Saudi Arabia Mandates USB-C Users On Electronic Devices By 2025

Saudi Arabia follows the steps of the European Union (EU) and India to require the use of USB-C charging ports on electronic devices marketed in the country. The directive was issued by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Saudi Communications, Space and Technology Commission.

In the first stage, electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and headphones must support USB-C from 1 January 2025. In the second stage from 1 April 2026, laptops and mobile computers must support USB-C.

The use of only one charging head is expected to reduce electronic waste, increase data transfer rates and make life easier for users in Saudi Arabia. Earlier directives from the EU and India finally succeeded in forcing Apple to no longer use Lightning ports on iPhones this year.
