Tesla is a well-known brand of electric vehicles, and has recently opened an office and also their official pre-order in Malaysia with the offer of a number of Tesla Model Y models.
Tesla vehicles are also loaded with an inforia system that comes with quite interesting features, where it also houses several functions that need to be activated through an additional fee. Recently, some security researchers at the Technische Universität Berlin from Germany have managed to find a security vulnerability that allows them to activate the Full Self Driving (FSD) function without having to pay for it.
Christian Werling, one of the researchers who succeeded in doing this "hacking" said that physical access to a Tesla car was required to do it, where they used the technique of "voltage glitching" which in short caused the CPU in the information system of the Tesla vehicle to receive the amount of voltage that caused it to receive certain instructions without having to wait for confirmation from Tesla's intranet network.
In fact, he said that this hack allows the FSD function to be activated in locations where the feature is not yet active. However, it should be noted that it is not yet known how the FSD feature will work in locations where it has not yet been tested.
Werling says that his team also has an authentication key that allows them to verify the activation of the FSD system via an internet connection, thus allowing the car to use it for free and "legitimately".
The university's research group will also present their findings at the Black Hat Security Conference 2023 in Las Vegas next week.
