The Government Is Studying The Need To Have A Data Protection Officer In The Organization

For the past year or two, the rate of user data leakage in Malaysia can be categorized as quite worrying. In parallel, the government is currently studying the need for each organization to have a specialized officer in managing user data.

With this step, it will make an organization more responsible, and at the same time take better steps in protecting user data. Indirectly as well, this will lead to new job opportunities in the arena of data management and protection.

For now, it is still at the evaluation and consideration stage. The requirement of a data protection officer in this organization is among the proposals for amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act (2010). Amendments to this act are expected to be brought to Parliament as early as October 2023, or in March 2024.

In addition, the government will also present the Cyber Security Bill at the end of this year, in order to further strengthen Malaysia's cyber security arena from various threats.
