TikTok Will Reportedly Block Links to Competing E-Commerce Sites

In recent times various social media platforms have started blocking the sharing of links to competing platforms. Recently X will remove link previews and slow down the process of opening links to competitor sites. Recently, TikTok wants to do the same.

The Information reports that TikTok will prevent the sharing of links to competing e-commerce sites on their platform. This means that after sharing the TikTok Shop link only is allowed. This is most likely because many people buy items that go viral on TikTok Shop on other e-commerce sites.

For now TikTok is said to only block Amazon links in the United States first. This is because there TikTok Shop lost over $500 million this year to expand their e-commerce platform. If this has become a habit, we are not surprised if after this TikTok Malaysia will also block the sharing of links from Shopee, Lazada and others.

What do you think about this new strategy of TikTok?
