Xiaomi MIX Fold3 was launched today with a thin design, a powerful enough processor and is also the world's first foldable screen device with a quad camera system. Unlike the Z Fold5 that was launched three weeks ago, the MIX Fold 3 has a fairly thin body that makes it look like a regular candybar smartphone.
For the external screen, Xiaomi uses a 6.56-inch E6 OLED panel that supports a high refresh rate of 120Hz LTPO. The screen outside allows the use of thin bezels and the use of a normal device with a 21:9 screen. This puts it on par with the designs of Vivo X Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X3.
The screen in the device is 8.03-inch E6 OLED LTPO with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. It also uses a UTG glass panel only 0.03 mm thick which makes the fold line on the screen less noticeable according to Xiaomi.
The design of this year's model is getting thinner which is 5.26mm when open and 10.96mm when closed. This is done with a new hinge that passes the TUV Rheinland test of opening and closing up to 500,000 times. It also allows the screen to be opened and maintained at an angle between 45-135 degrees for Hover Mode which is comparable to that found on the Z Fold5.
Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Edition processing chip matched with memory up to 16GB RAM, internal storage up to 1TB and a 4800mAh battery that supports 67W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.
For the camera it uses a quad-camera configuration that combines a 50MP f/1.77 OIS wide-angle lens, a 13MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens, a 3.2X 10MP f/2.0 OIS telephoto and a 5X 10MP f/2.92 OIS telephoto.
The selfie camera is 20MP outside and inside which is placed on the screen hole. The camera again uses a Leica Summicron lens with several modes that give footage as if it were taken with a real Leica camera.
For audio, Xiaomi maintains stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. The device runs MIUI Fold 14 which is the new MIUI operating system built specifically for devices with foldable screens. It is built on Android 13 and supports many third-party apps for multi-tasking as well as better display in tablet mode.
The device is offered in a glass finish but Xioami also offers a composite fiber edition which they claim is 36x more durable than regular glass.
