Two decades ago, to listen to the latest music, we needed to listen to the radio a lot. With streaming, the algorithm becomes king replacing the DJ who has been the determining factor. YouTube Music today launched the new Samples feature which suggests new songs through short 30-second clips.
The Samples tab is placed at the bottom of the YouTube Music application. When pressed, the new song is suggested in a 30-second clip. These suggested songs are given based on the history of previously streamed songs. To hear further suggestions, users can scroll up like in TikTok.
If a suggested song catches your interest you can stream it in full, watch the video, save it in a playlist or use the song in Shorts through on-screen selections.
TikTok has proven successful where artists can introduce their new songs. It's no surprise, then, that the Samples feature takes inspiration from TikTok. Samples are available to all YouTube Music users today.
