There are many TV boxes and TV dongles in the market now. Our favorite is Chromecast with Google TV because it provides a great user experience with very smooth performance. However, the Amblogic chip used is low-powered when compared to smartphone chips.
Most recently, SEI Robotics announced the launch of a TV box running the new Google TV that uses the Amlogic S905X5 chip with 6nm technology. So far the chip used is 12nm which is Amlogic S905X3, S905X34 or S905Y4. The new chip is the Amlogic S905X5. It supports Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC, adaptive high refresh rate display and 50% reduction in power consumption.
The chip will use a Cortex-A510 CPU paired with a Mali-G310 GPU at 1GHz. This chip will also bring support for AV1, H.265, VP9 and various other codecs. For now, SEI Robotics is only sharing the new chip's ability to run smart televisions.
Usually, TV boxes or smart televisions take a very long time to update with new chips. Just look at the five-year-old Mi Box S still receiving the Android 12 TV update. With Chromescast with Google TV already three years old, we will probably see this product updated first. Let's wait together.
