The Apple A17 Pro chip was also launched on this with it being used on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple continues the strategy of offering new chips only on Pro models this year since it did on the iPhone 14 Pro series.
The A17 Pro is the first chip using TSMC's 3nm technology which will offer increased CPU performance while at the same time reducing battery consumption. It is also the first chip in the A series to use the name Pro and no longer Bionic which has been used since the A11 Bionic in 2017 through the iPhone X and iPhone 8 series. Previously the name Fusion was used.
According to Apple, the A17 Pro's six-core CPU is up to 10% faster than the A16 Bionic. Meanwhile the new six-core GPU is up to 20% faster than the A16 Bionic. Performance up to 4X faster for ray tracing and 2X faster for artificial intelligence can also be achieved through this new chip.
This allows the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max to run Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, Assassin's Creed Mirage and Death Stranding coming to smartphones for the first time. So far all the games listed above are only offered on console and PC only.
