The animated film My Neighbor Totoro has many iconic scenes. Among them is Catbus, a cat that is also a bus. Fiction becomes reality as Catbus can now be ridden by visitors to Ghibli Park located in Japan.
It is actually a Toyota APM electric bus that was previously used during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Each bus can carry up to five passengers with space for wheelchair passengers. Ghibli Park visitors can take this bus to go to several interesting locations within the theme park.
Unlike the Catbus in the movies that can move quickly across various obstacles, this real-world Catbus only travels at a maximum speed of 20 km/h and paved roads because it uses wheels instead of five pairs of legs. Five Catbuses will start operating at Ghibli Park from March 2024.
