The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has today officially launched the National Nuclear Technology Policy 2030, which shows the country's agenda in mainstreaming the use of nuclear technology in enhancing industrial competitiveness, strengthening the well-being of the people, and at the same time conserving natural resources and the environment.
Under the Nuclear Technology Policy 2030, it focuses on six main focus sectors that can be improved through the use of nuclear technology, namely:
Medicine and health care;
Food and agriculture;
Manufacture of devices and equipment;
Environmental and natural resource management;
Industrial applications;
Nuclear safety and security
This is expected to further expand the contribution and use of nuclear technology to Malaysia's productivity - in addition to continuing to drive innovation and the development of highly skilled talent in Malaysia. This initiative is also expected to be the basis for the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Malaysia. The government also aims to increase the use of nuclear technology up to 40% by 2030.
Previously, we have seen several developments and innovations happen through the use of nuclear technology in Malaysia, including the production of rice seeds that are resistant to extreme weather.
