HP is entering the foldable screen laptop arena with today's launch of the HP Specter Foldable PC. It's a Windows 11 laptop with a foldable 17″ OLED screen. When needed it can function as a conventional 12.3″ laptop with physical keys, a giant tablet and a desktop.
It is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1250U chip, 16 GB LPDDR5-6400 memory, 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe TLC M.2 SSD storage and a 94.3 Wh battery that can last for 12 hours. With a 100W charger, this battery can be recharged quickly
The 17″ Specter Fold screen has a 4:3 ratio with a resolution of 1920 x 2560 pixels. This ratio is used to allow IMAX content to be viewed at the correct ratio. In desktop mode, there is a stick on the back that allows the screen to stand on the table.
The included physical keyboard is tethered using bluetooth and recharges wirelessly when stored between the folds of the screen. A stylus is also included for those who want to sketch directly on the screen surface.
The laptop's 5MP web camera has a physical shutter button to ensure privacy. The audio system consists of four Bang & Olufsen speakers that support DTS:X Ultra. All these components are included in a compact body weighing only 1.6 kilograms.
The HP Specter Foldable PC is sold at a price of $4999 (~RM24,405) in limited quantities starting this October in the United States before being offered to several other markets.
