HP Will Move Part Of Their Laptop Production To Southeast Asia

Some leading laptop brands are seen to have begun to reduce their dependence on China's electronic hardware production capabilities, and have begun to move some of their production to other regions.

HP is now seen as the latest company to do the same, where they have released a statement saying that the company will move part of their manufacturing process to countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and even Mexico.

In terms of laptop production, HP is the second largest computer company after Lenovo, where they have produced 55.2 million computers throughout 2022 according to data released by Canalys.

HP expects that around 5 million commercial and consumer grade laptops will be developed in Thailand as well as Mexico, where a new factory is expected to open in Vietnam in 2024.

As for the factory in Mexico, HP said that they are moving commercial laptop production there to help keep the US laptop market, which is the company's biggest market, alive, while the Thai factory is seen to make it easier for HP to take care of other markets.

This also does not mean that HP will leave the Chinese market altogether. The same statement said that their factory in Chongqing will still develop the majority of the company's computer offerings, especially since the area is the world's largest laptop development and production center.

As said before, the distribution of product production by these technology companies is nothing new. Dell and Apple are seen to have started manufacturing a number of their products in Vietnam, where Dell announced plans not to use chips manufactured in China, and Apple has started manufacturing their MacBook devices in the same country.

Whether other laptop brands will do the same in terms of producing their products, is still unknown so far.
