Today Huawei has surprisingly launched their new generation foldable phone, the Huawei Mate X5. This device is the successor to the Mate X3 that we tested recently, which is a phone with a pretty good foldable screen.
The outer screen of the Mate X5 is a 6.4-inch OLED LTPO FHD+ 120Hz, the inner screen is a 7.85-inch OLED LTPO 2496 x 2224 pixels and both screens support 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. There are two variants of the device, Mate X5 with Kunlun glass and Mate X5 Collector's Edition with Kunlun Basalt glass.
Huawei is keeping the chip used a secret, but it's most likely the same Kirin 9000s on the Mate 60 Pro. Memory is up to 16GB RAM with internal storage up to 1TB with NM memory card support up to 256GB.
For the camera, Huawei uses the XMAGE system which combines three sensors namely 50MP wide angle + 13MP ultra-wide angle + 12MP periscope 5x optical zoom and AIS stabilization system. The selfie camera is only 8MP. The Mate X5 camera app also supports various recording modes such as High Pixel Mode, Time-Lapse, Super Large Wide Angle and more.
The Huawei Mate X5 is equipped with a 5060mAh battery with 88W fast charging. For protection this device is recognized with IPX8 only. Bluetooth 5.2, USB 3.1 GEN1, and NFC. Because the chip is still a mystery it is not known whether 5G support is provided. What is included is a satellite communication system in case of emergency.
The device also runs the new operating system HarmonyOS 4. The design is still more or less the same as the Mate X3, as is the XMAGE camera bump. This means that the Mate X5 is still one of the thinnest foldable phones in the world (behind Honor).
Huawei Mate X5 is currently sold in China only. There are four color options which are feather sand white, feather sand black, feather gold, green mountain dai or phantom purple. The sale price for the time being has not yet been revealed.
