iPadOS 17 Enables GameBoy Camera To Be Used For FaceTime

With iPadOS 17, Apple finally provides USB Video Class support. This means that for the first time any camera accessory with USB such as a webcam can be used on the iPad. You can now use the Jabra Panacast20 or Logitech C922 Pro Stream Webcam directly on the iPad without the need for a computer.

Recently Federico Viticci from MacStories reported that he successfully used the GameBoy Camera as the default camera for FaceTime on the iPad. With USB Video Class support on iPad not only USB cameras can be detected, but DSLR camera adapters, capture cards and others can also be used.

For this GameBoy Camera, Viticci uses a special API that is still in beta testing. He also stated that no one will probably use this camera for FaceTime, but it looks interesting and unique. It's as if FaceTime has filters or special face effects built right into the camera.
