We are still enjoying the 5G network in Malaysia but in South Korea the effort to launch the 6G network has started since last year. LG recently announced the success of sending 6G data at THz frequencies up to 500 meters away. This surpassed the record of 320 meters they set last year at the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Institute Berlin.
The success this time is important because it was done at LG Sciencepark Seoul which is located in the city area. It proves that 6G THz technology can be used in the real world because the optimal distance of transmitters in the bantar area is 500 meters from each other.
With 6G THz technology, not only faster data can be enjoyed but further reduced time lag enabling more detailed AI and self-driving systems in the future.
Standardization of the 6G network is expected to be done in 2025 with commercialization starting in 2029. South Korea previously determined to introduce a 6G prototype in 2026 and use it as early as 2028.
