The Meta Quest 3 headset was finally officially launched in the United States early this morning after it was shown last June. It is now not just a virtual reality (VR) headset but can also be used in mixed reality (MR) mode in color.
In terms of specifications, the Quest 3 is equipped with two LCD screens each with a resolution of 2064 x 2208 pixels that provide a viewing angle of 100 degrees horizontally and 96 degrees vertically. This is better than Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
Another thing that is better is the use of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. There is no information on battery capacity except that the Quest 3 can operate continuously for 90 minutes. In terms of weight, it is around 515 grams.
The built-in audio system on this headset supports 3D audio. The Quest 3 design is thinner this year because it uses a pancake lens system. The distance of the lens from the eye can be changed by the wearer by moving a wheel button. Unlike Vision Pro, those with glasses do not need to purchase expensive special adapters that require an appointment in advance.
Two remote controls are also included with every purchase. It comes with a touch pad but no more coils to track movements. Finally Quest 3 is designed to be used even without a remote control as it can detect gestures. A two-finger tap on the side of the ship set for example can be used to exit and enter VR mode.
A pair of Quest 3 sells for $500 (~RM2354) for 128GB of storage and rises to $650 (~RM3060) for 512GB of storage. Pre-orders are open.
