Meta is currently planning to develop a new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) that has capabilities comparable to GPT-4 according to a Wall Street Journal report. Its development will start in Q1 2024 using their own infrastructure.
In an effort to develop this new artificial intelligence, Meta has already purchased more NVIDIA H100 chips which are currently the most powerful AI training chips on the market. Once operational, Meta will no longer need to use the Microsoft Azure infrastructure they currently use.
Mark Zuckerberg seems to be starting to focus more on AI after their initial meta-city world efforts failed to gain public attention. Previously there were reports that Meta wanted to integrate more AI features on their products such as WhatsApp and Instagram. They have also developed an AI that can translate all the world's languages in real time.
Meta joins Google, Samsung, and Apple in developing a new language model (LLM) for AI as it is now seen as a necessary technology to attract users.
