The Microsoft Surface Duo series of dual-screen devices can be said to be among the most unique devices released by Microsoft. So far, there are two variants of this device while plans for a third device seem to have been buried for now.
Recently, there are reports saying that Microsoft has ended support for the first generation Surface Duo model. This is because when the Surface Duo was launched on September 10, 2020, Microsoft said that they would only support this device with updates to the operating system and other software for three years only.
Now, after three years have passed, the update support for this device ends with Android 12L operating system and there is no more security support to keep this device safe to use. In the meantime, downloaded applications will still be able to be updated on this device without problems.
If you have this first generation Surface Duo device, you can still download third-party ROM software to use the Android 13 or 14 operating system if you want it.
In the meantime, the second generation Microsoft Surface Duo will still be supported until next year before support for it also ends. Both devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processing chip for the first generation model and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 for the second generation device.
