The problem of using data without the permission of OpenAI IP owners now involves 17 leading authors. Among the list of writers suing are George R R Martin, who is famous for A Song of Ice and Fire, and John Grisham, who is famous for The Firm and A Time To Kill, also presented the same against OpenAI in court in New York
The suit was organized by the Authors Guild alleging that the plaintiffs' intellectual property and their trademarks were systematically stolen on a large scale to train the ChatGPT and GPT-4 artificial intelligence. Previously OpenAI was sued by a group of writers in California.
In addition to Martin and Grisham, other writers who filed suit are David Baldacci, Mary Bly, Michael Connelly, Sylvia Day, Jonathan Franzen, Elin Hilderbrand, Christina Baker Kline, Maya Shanbhag Lang, Victor LaValle, Jodi Picoult, Douglas Preston, Roxana Robinson, George Saunders, Scott Turow, and Rachel Vail.
