Your current smartphone may be dust, water and shock resistant but it's still not rugged enough to be used by military personnel. To meet the needs of front-line troops, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition were announced this week.
Both have new frames that allow them to pass the MIL-STD-810H military standard. The S23 Tactial Edition is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip while the Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition uses the Snapdragon 778G. In addition, there is a mode that disables all radio, cellular and GPS functions so that the user cannot be detected while in the field while performing missions.
Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit (BATDOK) system support is also provided with Samsung Knox to ensure user data is always safe. Connection to additional GPS systems is also possible for more precise location tracking.
Other changes compared to the civilian model are that it can be used with a night vision headset (NVG) and a screen that can detect the touch of a user wearing gloves. There is a special pole that allows both devices to be connected directly to the chest part of the body armor.
Like the Tactical Edition model launched earlier, these two smartphones can only be purchased by military forces. The sales price was also not announced by Samsung.
