Sony Launches Full Frame Camera For Drones

Sony is now presenting a new full frame camera offering through the ILX-LR1 which is dedicated to the industrial and professional sector including drones. The camera features a 61-MP 35mm Exmor R CMOS sensor and a Bionz XR processor chip without built-in image stabilization, which also supports a variety of interchangeable Sony E-Mount lenses.

Through this sensor the camera can also record video up to 4K/60FPS as well as S-Log3 mode. At the same time, it is said to be the ideal choice for live streaming that is recorded remotely in real time. The ISO range is between 100 - 32,000, then the camera also does not have image stabilization built into the body and the ability to record continuously is limited to 3FPS.

Then there is no screen nor EVF included, instead the control of the camera is completely via the Sony Camera Remote SDK. By integrating an API into the system, it allows various menus and functions on this camera to be controlled directly from afar. Includes for changing camera settings, shutter, live view monitoring and more.

In addition, the camera also has mounting screws (1/4-20 UNC) on the bottom, along with USB Type-C and HDMI Micro (Type D) ports on the back for easy installation. The ILX-LR1 also supports DC 10-18V power connection and can be powered from the drone's battery for long operation time without the need for batteries.

The ILX-LR1 will be available in December 2023 with a retail price of $2,950 USD (~RM13,776) for the camera only.
