Spotify today announced the use of OpenAI technology in their offering – where users will soon be able to listen to podcast audio on Spotify dubbed into the language of their choice, but at the same time retaining the voice and style of the original presenter.
With this step, users are expected to be able to enjoy an experience similar to the original recording, instead of just using a re-recording by a translator as before.
For the initial pilot test of the use of this voice generation technology, Spotify will do translations for several popular podcasts, including podcasts published by Dax Shepard, Monica Padman, Lex Fridman, Bill Simmons, and even Steven Bartlett - where their voices and delivery style in the podcast will be transferred- voice by using generation technology based on artificial intelligence (AI).
Spotify says these podcast episodes with AI-based voice translation options will be offered to all premium and free users. Initially, language translation support will be limited – but Spotify aims to expand it day by day, supporting more podcast shows on their platform.
With this latest development, let's all look forward to and see the success of Spotify's use of the voice generation feature for the purpose of translation and dubbing.
