We've heard for years that Meta wants to be among the first to offer cross-platform messaging features between different social media platforms. On Facebook Messenger and Instagram this feature is already available but Meta will turn it off soon. WhatsApp is still down until today.
However, recently WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is testing the Third-party chats feature where in the application there is a special room for third-party messaging. For now it is still uncertain if these third parties are Facebook Messenger and Instagram or include other competitors such as Google RCS, Telegram, Signal and others.
This feature began to appear because European Union (EU) law will force giant technology companies like Meta to open their messaging platforms to other parties to facilitate users. It's just not clear at the moment if this "Third-part chats" feature is for cross-platform messaging or if one application can access many other platforms like Beeper offers?
