215 Illegally Built Communication Towers Have Been Identified In Perak

Communication technology connectivity is one of the main things that local and federal governments emphasize, but sometimes it is also seen that there are a number of telecommunications companies that use not so subtle tactics to ensure that more locations can receive mobile internet connections.

Chairman of the Perak State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee Mohd Azlan Helmi said today that his party has found 215 telecommunications towers that were built illegally in 12 areas in the state.

"The state government has implemented the Perak State Telecommunication Structure Rehabilitation Program in 2021 which has been extended until June 30, 2023 to give the relevant parties the opportunity to apply for a valid permit from the local authorities as well as local district and land offices".

He said that the said number is the latest number of illegal towers, of which there are still 83 illegal towers in Ipoh. 31 in Manjung and Taiping, 14 in Teluk Intan, 12 in Kuala Kangsar and Tanjung Malim, 9 in Kerian, 8 in Tapah, 6 in Batu Gajah, 4 in Kampar and Central Perak, and 1 in Gerik.

He further said that these telecommunications companies are asked to apply for official permits and licenses for these towers, or else they will be subject to fines and stricter enforcement actions.
