4.3 Billion People in the World Now Own a Smartphone

 


GSMA shared a report on the number of smartphone users in the world until the end of 2022. According to their estimate, 4.3 billion which is equivalent to 54% of the world's population now own a smartphone. Meanwhile there are 4.6 billion equivalent to 57% of the world's population now accessing the internet through cellular networks.



Of this number, nearly 4 billion access the mobile internet through smartphones and another 600 million use regular mobile phones. Another 350 million have smartphones but do not access cellular internet.


A total of 69% of users access the internet through the 4G network and another 17% access using the 5G network. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 69% of internet access is still done via 3G devices. In the Middle East and North Africa, 3G internet networks are still used by 33% of users.



There are 3.4 billion people on earth who still do not have access to mobile internet despite living in areas with cellular internet networks. On average this global download speed is 34 Mbps. For pen reports
