Adobe Project Stardust Simplifies the Process of Adding and Removing Background Objects Using AI

On social media there are accounts that offer photo editing services. Some ask for people in the background to be removed from holiday photos and some ask to add people who were not present during the wedding event. This editing process requires expertise in Photoshop which many do not have. At Adobe Max this morning, Project Stardust's technology was demonstrated by making it possible for anyone to have this expertise.

Through artificial intelligence, Project Stardust can analyze uploaded images. Then it can provide a means of deleting objects. With just one click it can be deleted without having to be selected by the user. Next objects can be added using the artificial intelligence (AI) power of Adobe Firefly.

The generated object can then be resized, oriented and placed behind the main subject of the picture. It is like Generative Fill but for different objects which can then be edited as needed.

Stardust can also be used to change the clothes worn by the individual in the picture. Again Adobe Firefly will generate the desired outfit based on the prom entered by the user

Finally, and perhaps the most amazing feature, Stardust can separate individuals in a group photo. In the demo shown, the pictures of four individuals can be changed into just one. What makes Stardust unique is that selected individuals are originally hidden. Adobe Firefly can estimate the hidden parts of the face and shirt and then generate the parts that are not in the original image. All of the demos shown today including Stardust are still in testing at Adobe.
