AMD Acquires Open Source AI Software Developer Nod.ai

 


AMD's entry into the artificial intelligence arena is nothing new. The offerings of Ryzen AI, EPYC and Radeon processing chips are seen to have benefited various parties as additional options for their machine learning and artificial intelligence processing needs.


AMD has now announced that they will acquire open source AI software development company Nod.ai which will allow AMD to develop artificial intelligence software to optimize various of their existing artificial intelligence technologies, such as AMD Instinct and also their processing chips that leverage for that purpose.



Nod.ai is known for their SHARK software that helps in accelerating the optimization of machine learning and artificial intelligence systems using automation, allowing programmers and researchers to perform more important research and tasks.


AMD's acquisition of Nod.ai is seen as an investment in the development of their AI software platform to be combined with their hardware and component offerings. The details of this acquisition have not been announced yet, but several reports have reported that AMD is investing $36.5 million (~RM172 million) to bring in 1500 AI engineers into the company.
